From Foundations to Future
Started in 1975
Bear State Construction’s journey began back in 1975, starting small with chain-link fences and dog kennels. In 1984, we expanded into topsoil delivery and, soon after, bought a property to build spec homes. As the housing market soared in the late 80s, so did our growth — building more homes and taking on bigger challenges.
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
In 1989, when the real estate market took a dip, we pivoted and started working with PG&E as a subcontractor, trenching across San Francisco. That same year, we faced the aftermath of the 1989 earthquake and the Marina Fire, repairing gas lines in the San Francisco Marina. As things settled, we moved on to excavating the water systems on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, solidifying our ability to tackle complex jobs across the Bay Area.
Shaping the Bay Area’s Recovery
Over the years, Bear State Construction became a trusted name in disaster recovery and infrastructure. From cleaning up the Oakland Hills Fire to rebuilding the Cypress Structure, we’ve helped restore vital parts of the Bay Area, including the Bay Bridge on-ramp repairs and the Golden Gate Bridge soil cleanup. We even worked on the Santa Rosa Convention Center and Grace Brothers Brewery Creek Restoration!
A New Direction
In 1999, Bear State Construction expanded once again by preparing sites for manufactured homes. This shift opened up new opportunities, and soon we were working on numerous manufactured housing projects every year — becoming a leader in this specialized area.
